The aim of the Consortium for the European Red List of Freshwater Algae is to create a think tank – from researchers and stakeholders – representing a research, discussion and creative platform that focusing on the practical protection of freshwater cyanobacteria and algae and their habitats.

Our aim is to connect key institutions and researchers in order to establish complex methods and procedures for the application of the rules of species protection according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) together with the connection with the European Red List of Habitats. We want to initiate a discussion on the distribution of species, their possible endangerment and possibilities of practical protection at regularly organized Conferences.

Working together to meet the key Challenges, connected with the protection of cyanobacteria and algae and their habitats, and create an effective tool for practical protection. Involve not only the professional public but also the general public in the practical protection and mapping of species and their habitats through citizen science projects.
